Saving animals takes more than one person, one foster home, or one rescue—it takes a community.
The Road Home Rescue Project is a foster-based Connecticut animal rescue working alongside animal control agencies, shelters, and members of our community to help animals in need. Because we do not operate a traditional shelter, our ability to save lives depends on people willing to open their homes, give their time, share their talents, and support our mission.
Whether you can foster an animal, volunteer for a few hours, make a donation, or simply help spread the word, there is a place for you on their road home.
Become a Foster
Fosters are the heart of our rescue.
Without foster homes, we cannot say “yes” to animals who need us. Fostering provides an animal with a safe, loving place to land while they wait for their forever family.
Depending on the animal, fostering may mean providing a temporary home for a few weeks, helping an animal recover from a medical procedure, caring for a litter, or simply giving a scared or overwhelmed animal the opportunity to decompress and learn what it feels like to be safe.
We work to match fosters with animals that fit their home, experience, lifestyle, and comfort level. You provide the love and a safe place to stay—we’ll be there to support you along the way.

Can't foster? You can still make a huge difference.
A foster-based rescue requires an entire network of people working behind the scenes. Whether you have a few hours occasionally or want to become a regular part of our team, we welcome people who want to put their time and talents toward helping animals.
Volunteer opportunities may include:
- Animal Transportation — Help transport animals from animal control, veterinary appointments, foster homes, adoption events, and other locations.
- Adoption Events — Help set up, break down, greet potential adopters, handle animals, and represent the rescue at community events.
- Fundraising & Events — Help us organize fundraisers, donation drives, community events, and other opportunities that support the animals in our care.
- Photography & Video — Great photos help animals get noticed! Volunteer your skills to capture adoption photos and videos that show off their personalities.
- Social Media & Marketing — Help us create content, share adoptable animals, promote events, and tell the stories of the animals whose lives our community helps change.
- Administrative Support — Rescue involves plenty of work behind the scenes. Help with applications, paperwork, data entry, emails, organization, and other administrative needs.
- Supply & Donation Coordination — Help collect, organize, transport, or distribute donated food, crates, bedding, toys, and other supplies.
- Professional Skills — Photographers, trainers, groomers, veterinary professionals, designers, writers, event planners, and people with other specialized skills can all have an incredible impact.
